ShadeScout AR — Terms of Service
By installing or using ShadeScout AR you agree to these terms.
The app
ShadeScout AR helps you find shade outdoors using GPS, sensors, and crowdsourced tree data. Predictions are advisory only — use your own judgment, especially for safety-critical decisions (infant sun exposure, heat stroke avoidance, etc.).
What you can do
- Use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes
- Contribute tree tags and shade observations
- Cancel your subscription at any time via App Store or Play Store
What you may not do
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code
- Submit knowingly false data (intentionally mis-tagging trees, fake observations)
- Use the app to harass others or do anything illegal
- Scrape or republish the crowdsourced dataset without permission
Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions auto-renew through the App Store or Play Store unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by us.
The crowdsourced shade model
ShadeScout's per-venue shade forecasts are powered by a proprietary anonymous dataset of tree heights, structures, and ground-truth observations built from every user's contributions. When you tag a tree or submit an observation, the de-identified contribution (anchored to the venue's location, not yours) joins the shared per-venue model.
You grant Glippin Toys, LLC a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, and incorporate that de-identified contribution into the shared shade model and any AI features built on it. We do not claim ownership of your contribution — what we license is the right to use the anonymized data in the shared model for everyone's benefit.
If you delete your account, your future contributions stop, but past anonymized contributions to the shade model remain — they were de-identified at the moment of contribution and are not linkable to you.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING SUNBURN OR HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS. SHADE PREDICTIONS ARE BEST-EFFORT AND CAN BE WRONG, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WITHOUT CROWDSOURCED TREE DATA.
Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use after updates take effect means you accept them.
