ShadeScout AR — Terms of Service
By installing or using ShadeScout AR you agree to these terms.
The app
ShadeScout AR uses augmented reality to forecast shade and help you find comfortable outdoor spots at venues. The AR overlay shows live shadow boundaries and forecasts how shade will move over the next 4 hours. Verdicts are advisory only and do not guarantee shade availability. Weather, season, and structural changes can affect actual shade in ways the forecast may not capture.
What you can do
- Use ShadeScout AR for personal, non-commercial purposes
- Save your favorite spots and share them with others
- Contribute tree tags and shade observations to the shared database
- Cancel your subscription via App Store or Play Store
What you may not do
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
- Submit fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate tree tags designed to manipulate the shade database
- Scrape or republish the crowdsourced shade/tree database
- Rely on ShadeScout AR as a substitute for professional advice or safety assessment
Subscriptions
ShadeScout AR Premium is an auto-renewable subscription, offered as $2.99 per month or $19.99 per year (United States pricing; your local price is shown in the App before you purchase).
Premium includes future shade forecasting (up to 4 hours ahead), unlimited saved spots, shade-arrival alerts, the Spot Recommender, and unlimited shade explanations. Free users can view current shade only and save one spot.
Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew at the same price and period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your device's App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are processed by Apple or Google under their respective terms.
The crowdsourced shade database
ShadeScout AR's accuracy improves when users contribute tree tags and shade observations. When you submit a tree tag or shade observation, the location, dimensions, photo, and verification data are stored anonymously — not linked to you. You grant Glippin Toys, LLC a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, and incorporate that de-identified shade data into the shared map database and any models trained on it.
If you delete your account, your saved spots are removed and your future contributions stop. Past contributions to the shared database remain because they were de-identified at the moment of contribution and are not linkable to you.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. ShadeScout AR IS NOT LIABLE FOR YOUR COMFORT, SAFETY, OR HEALTH DECISIONS BASED ON SHADE FORECASTS. FORECASTS ARE ADVISORY AND BEST-EFFORT. ACTUAL SHADE CONDITIONS MAY DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY FROM FORECASTS DUE TO WEATHER, STRUCTURAL CHANGES, OR OTHER FACTORS OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL.
Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use after updates take effect means you accept them.
