ShadeScout AR — Privacy Policy
ShadeScout AR is built by Glippin Toys, LLC. We respect your privacy. This page describes what ShadeScout AR collects, why, and how you can control it.
Summary
- No account, no email, no password. ShadeScout AR signs you in anonymously. We never ask for your name, email, phone, or social login.
- Location only while in use. ShadeScout AR uses your GPS location and compass heading to overlay shade boundaries in real time. We do not store or share your location.
- Crowdsourced shade data. When you tag trees or observe shade, that anonymized data improves the map for everyone — never linked to you.
- No advertising. No third-party trackers.
- Subscriptions processed by Apple, Google, RevenueCat. We never see payment details.
What we collect

What we never collect
- Names, emails, phone numbers, mailing addresses, government IDs
- Your exact location (GPS is used in-memory only; not stored or transmitted)
- Device identifiers (we use anonymous Firebase auth instead)
- Anything from advertising or tracking SDKs (we use none)
Crowdsourced shade database
ShadeScout AR's accuracy improves when you contribute tree tags and shade observations. Every tag you submit is de-identified at the moment of contribution — it records the location, tree height, and canopy size, but not your identity. These anonymized records are aggregated nightly to build a shared map database that makes ShadeScout better for everyone.
When you delete your account, your saved spots are removed and your future contributions stop. Past contributions to the crowdsourced database were de-identified at the moment of contribution and remain in the shared dataset — they were never linkable to you in the first place.
AI explanations
When you ask ShadeScout "where should I sit?", your request is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for a natural-language explanation. The request includes only the venue's shade forecast (trees, structures, weather, time window) — never your identity, location history, or any personal information. Anthropic's paid API does not train on customer data.
Third parties
- Firebase — backend, crash reporting, push notifications, anonymous authentication
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API — buildings and trees near your location (called while you use the app; not stored)
- Open-Meteo — hourly cloud cover forecast (free, cached locally)
- Anthropic (Claude) — shade explanations. Anthropic's paid API does not train on customer data.
- RevenueCat — subscription processing
Your rights
- Delete account + all data: Settings → Delete Account. Irreversible, immediate. (Apple guideline 5.1.1(v) compliant.)
- Delete a saved spot: swipe-to-delete in Saved Spots.
- Disable push notifications: Settings → Notifications, or your device settings.

Permissions
ShadeScout AR requests these permissions:
- Location (While Using the App): Required for GPS shade calculation.
- Camera: Required for AR overlay and tree-tagging photos.
- Motion & Fitness (iOS) / Accelerometer (Android): Required for device pitch detection in tree-height estimation and AR overlay.
- Notifications (optional): For shade-arrival alerts you opt into.
Children
ShadeScout AR is not designed for or marketed to children under 13.
