ShadeScout AR — Privacy Policy
ShadeScout AR is built by Glippin Toys, LLC. We respect your privacy. This page describes what ShadeScout collects, why, and how you can control it. Plain-English summary first, then the details.
Summary
- No account, no email, no password. ShadeScout signs you in anonymously. We do not collect your name, email, phone, or any contact information.
- Your camera. Used only to render the live shade overlay and to let you tap trees for height estimation. We do not record video.
- Your location. Used to compute where the sun is relative to you. We do not store your location history. When you tag a tree, the tree's lat/lng is stored — never linked to your identity.
- Crowdsource contributions. Tree tags and shade observations join a shared dataset so everyone benefits. Each is tied to your anonymous ID for abuse prevention, never to you personally.
- Photos. Optional. If you attach a photo to a shade observation, it's stored in our private bucket and you can delete it anytime.
- No advertising. No third-party trackers.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. We never see payment details.
- Crash reports are anonymized.

What we never collect
- Email addresses, phone numbers, names, mailing addresses
- Real-time location tracking when the app is closed
- Contacts, calendar, browsing history
- Health data, financial data, government IDs
- Anything from advertising or tracking SDKs (we use none)
Third parties
- Firebase (Google) — backend infrastructure
- RevenueCat — subscription processing
- OpenStreetMap — map tiles for the 2D view (no user data sent)
- OpenWeather — cloud cover for shade strength (only rounded location, ~1km precision)
- Anthropic (Claude) — natural-language recommendations from anonymized venue context
The crowdsourced shade model
ShadeScout's edge over a generic sun-position calculator is the proprietary per-venue dataset of trees, structures, and ground-truth shade observations that users build together. Every tree tag, height estimate, and shade observation joins the shared dataset for that venue — anonymously. The next person who opens the app at that ballpark, beach, or park gets a forecast that includes everything previous users have measured there.
AI features in ShadeScout (natural-language venue recommendations) learn from the aggregated dataset, not from individual contributions. The recommendation you see is the collective wisdom of every prior anonymous contributor for that venue.
When you delete your account, your future contributions stop and your attached photos are removed. Past tree tags and shade observations were de-identified at the moment of contribution and remain in the shared venue model — they were never linkable to you in the first place.
Your rights
- Delete your account + all data: Settings → Delete Account. Irreversible, immediate.
- Disable push notifications: Settings → Notifications.
- Revoke camera or location permission: system Settings → ShadeScout AR.

Children
ShadeScout AR is not designed for or marketed to children under 13.
Changes
Material changes update the "Last updated" date and are surfaced in-app.
